Pillars of Policy for Child Sexual Abuse Prevention:

    A Discussion

    Wednesday, March 18, 2015

11 am Pacific Time, 2pm Eastern Time

It could be argued that critical conversations are the mechanism in which tangible social change can occur. The art of sharing, arguing, or deconstructing theoretical concepts, until they become more malleable for practice, is not easy, but moves us in the field of child sexual abuse prevention to the places we want to go. As an example, the Coalition to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation has released the Six Pillars of Prevention to build a dialogue around the creation of a comprehensive policy agenda to benefit children and prevent sexual abuse. In this web conference, participants will learn how policy matters in prevention work, and what tools they can use to bridge the theory of action with the practice of action. In this web conference, participants will learn how policy matters in prevention work, and what tools they can use to bridge the theory of action with the practice of action.

This web conference is a part of PreventConnect and Ms. Foundation for Women's third year of the #PowerInPrevention: Ending Child Sexual Abuse Web Conference Series.

New blog from PreventConnect: The Hunting Ground: Catalyst for action to end sexual violence on campus in 2015

Adapted summary: In 2014, sexual assault on college campuses became front-page news – in 2015 it will have an even larger profile as activists, journalists, filmmakers, government officials sexual violence prevention practitioners, and college administrators will be taking more action on this topic.

Just in the last year, stories of student activists naming the problem of campus sexual assault drew national attention. The White House established a task force, issued a report and developed the It’s on Us campaign to address the issue. The federal government released alist of colleges and universities undergoing investigation of sexual violence (starting with 55 institutions – now up to 94) and the Department of Education issuedregulations on addressing sexual violence.

Yet, I expect even more attention and action in 2015. The year started with the January 2015 premiere ofThe Hunting Ground at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was one of the “Top 10 Buzzed About Festival Films.” This film will be released in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on February 27, and will open on other cities later. And The Hunting Ground will be shown on CNN in the fall.

PreventConnect announces the next Ending Child Sexual Abuse Webinar Series. Bridging Knowledge in Child Sexual Abuse Prevention: Promising Practices in Indigenous Communities will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 2pmET!

Comprehensive prevention practices must include culturally competent components. In this web conference, we will highlight Indigenous communities and the work community members are doing to end child sexual abuse.

This web conference is a part of PreventConnect and Ms. Foundation for Women's third year of the #PowerInPrevention: Ending Child Sexual Abuse Web Conference Series.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Describe child sexual abuse and prevention dynamics within indigenous communities
    • Name three key elements about culturally specific programming
    • Identify key strategies and promising practices
